Product Description
An all but perfect one-disc best-of. The Fish, of course, were simultaneously the most political and the funniest of the so-called San Francisco bands (actually, they were from Berkeley). As a result, despite their tendency to jam at length at the drop of a joint (a trait endemic to the SF bands) they tended to be more song-oriented than most of their contemporaries.
This anthology is also a terrific showcase of the band's artistic growth. It encompasses their earliest beginnings as a sort of warped jug band ("Superbird") through their evolution into a primo psychedelic outfit ("Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine"), counter-cultural entertainers ("Rock and Soul Music") and finally pop craftsmen ("Here I Go Again", "Maria").
